History of Bengal intertwined with the history of boarder Indian Sub-continent, Bangladesh, Indian State of W.B., Tripura, Assam districts at the apex ganga delta several kingdoms existed here since vedik period. It was the enterpot of Silk Road, Cotton lucrative Muslin textile etc. The Region was of Indian empires which include Mouriyans and Guptas.

The development of Bengal language, script literature, music, art and architecture was during Pala empire  and Sen empire.

1204 To 1352 Bengal the province of the Delhi sultanate, “TAKA” was   introduced as modern coinage. The Bengal generated 50% of empire’s gross GDP and 12% of world’s GDP. The economic development of Bengal waved the period of proto –Industrialization.

A hot belt at Indian national Movement throughout the 20th century. Bengal was divided into two separate entities.

The early education in Bengal commenced under the supervision of a Guru  or Prabhu. It was one of the methods to achieve Moksha or enlightenment or perfection. As time progressed education was imparted for social upliftment.

The oldest Medical college  in south Asia  in the line of London university was established in Calcutta. Ms Kadambini Ganguli and Ms Chandramukhi Basu became the first women to be graduated from university of Calcutta. First blind school was established in Bengal in 1925.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose asked for blood and in return offered freedom. Swami Vivekananda gave pathway to transform society through spiritual oriented service to mankind. In Bengal in olden days the Priest was the highest class in the society and not the men of the sword. Then hence rituals war loaded on society.

In India spiritual equality of the souls existed but strictly kept the social difference. The older forces never entirely pacified but they underwent a good deal of modification during the centuries of Buddhist supremacy.

In ancient Bengal the centers of national life were always the intellectuals and spiritual leaders and not political. Of old, political and social power had been always subordinated to the Spiritual and intellectuals.

At that very time Swami Vivekananda to establish his work on a firm basis, Swamiji summoned all the monastic and lay disciples of Sri Ramakrishna to a meeting at Shri Balaram Bose’s house, and the Ramakrishna Mission was formed in May 1897. The aims and ideals of the Mission propounded by the Swami were purely spiritual, educational, medical, social upliftment and in large, humanitarian. He had inaugurated the twin machinery, now worldwide recognized as Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, for carrying out his ideas for the nation building.

Once, Swami Vivekananda said to Nivedita: ‘Social life in the West is like a peal of laughter; but underneath, it is a wail. It ends in a sob. … Here in India, it is sad and gloomy on the surface, but underneath are carelessness and merriment.’ The West had tried to conquer external nature, and the East had tried to conquer internal nature. Now East and West must work hand in hand for the good of each other, without destroying the special characteristics of each. The West has much to learn from the East, and the East has much to learn from the West; in fact, the future has to be shaped by a proper fusion of the two ideals. Then there will be neither Easy nor West, but one humanity”.

The social structure at present in Bengal is different from the past, when we compare the economic aspect of the Bengal, we find that the economic disparity is present in Bengal now. We have to set up proper industrial structure for progress of Bengal on the line of ‘Serve Man as Serving God’, as envisaged by Swami Vivekananda.

The culture of Bengal has many aspects like a Durga Puja, literature, music, films etc. Currently Satyajeet Ray, Mrunal Sen etc. were contributing to develop culture.

The Education played an important role to Create outstanding individuals of Bengal like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Rabindranath Togore, Jadish Chandra Bose etc. and played important role in India’s freedom movement, social, spiritual and material upliftment. Educated people with spirituality and nationalist feelings are needed to create new Bengal and glorious Bengal, which can only be achieved from childhood on the line of ‘Man Making, Character Building and Leadership Training’ as exhorted by Swami Vivekananda. Masses has to be taken care of by initiating them in various new ideas of better livelihood through moral and bread earning education, as Swami Vivekananda has said, ‘My only hope is in younger generation. Out of them will come my workers and work out my ideas about future India’.

The basic amenities like food, water, sanitations for woman can be improved on large scale in some part of Bengal, specially 24 Pargana district.

(15 December 1908 – 25 April 2005) the 13th President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission once said, ‘The Bengal must follow the path of the great Spiritual leaders. A Study of Vivekananda literature will help our people to develop humanist passion in their hearts and work with efficiency and dedication in the service of their motherland’.
